This book is a great overall of Tress' work, covering his early workes to his present ones. As an art photo teacher, its a great resource to have to show examples for assignments such as dream, light and dark, series, and shadow.
The images are wonderfully reproduced and there is a great essay describing Tress and his vision. Each section of Tress' work also has an introduction by him.

Richard Lorenz's informative commentary is augmented by a contribution from John Wood on the life and work of Tress. I enjoyed the book and the the pictures.I belive Ann has a Godly spirt because she could have bashed Earl if she wanted to.I am also a , Tiger Woods fan and after reading the book I'm a Ann Woods Gary fan also.This book has the making of a movie!Great job Ann.

I think the book was well written by the person who lived her life with her children the best she could. She didn't bash her exhusband, she told the story like she lived it. She said enough but not too much so you would lose interest. I liked the memories she shared as well as the 18 years she had with a man she clearly cared a lot about.

Robert Asprey has emerged as the consummate military historian. His recent works, which include War in the Shadows, The German High Command, and the two volumes on Napoleon, have brought him critical praise for their detail and keen insights into the minds of military professionals. To understand how Aprey arrived at where he now stands in the world of military historians, one must read this book, one of his earliers forays into writing. The budding historians would be well served by reading this book because it neatly folds details-analytical and precise-with sparse dramatization while giving the reader keen insights in the demeanor of the military mind at war. At Belleau Wood remains a masterful narrative and more importantly, the book has lost none of its relevance. Why? If the reader substitutes the situation in which the American Expeditionary Force found itself at Belleau Wood with the situation in which it now finds itself in Afghanistan, the relevance becomes all too clear: extended presence in an unfamiliar nation, stagnant combined-arms training, aviation limited by horrible weather conditions, and erstwhile allied support. The University of North Texas Press has done the military a great service by reprinting this book because the lessons learned can't come quickly enough as they gear up for a very, very, long war.

These famous words uttered by a Marine Corps Major sum up the fighting spirit of the United States Marine Corps. And "At Belleau Wood" is a fabulous glimpse into the "Old Corps." Rarely does a book so technically sound, and painstakingly researched, captivate the reader so fully. Appropriate for both the "armchair general" and the military scholar. If you are interested in either the origins of our nations "Premier Fight Force," or in the brutal combat of the Great War, this book is for you.

My toddler son has spent hours glued to our backdoor window, which opens on our modest suburban backyard, watching birds, squirrels, and deer. Now he is glued to "At the Edge of the Woods" where he sees all of his wild friends beautifully illustrated, doing exactly what the real creatures do. He particularly loves finding them when they are hiding in the woods, and points again and again to make me name them as he learns to say the names himself. Even though the illustrations are stylized, the expressions and activities are wonderfully in keeping with the true lively nature of the animals. I love reading it to him - singing, really - Ms. Cotten's text is enlivened by internal rhythms and the natural musicality of the words themselves. She chooses words that are simple yet unexpected, demonstrating a richness of vocabulary that I have not seen in any counting books, and too few story books. I know this is one of the books (Ms. Cotten's "Snow Ponies" is another) that my son will eventually be reading aloud to me, because the quality of the prose, and the creative hide-and-seek with the animals, will continue to capture his attention and imagination as he grows.

This charming counting book combines the drama of story (watch out for that big burly bear!) with a lyrical counting rhyme that invites singing as the numbers of animals multipy at the edge of the deep dark woods. Cartwright's cheerful illustrations are perfect for preschool storyhours and large enough for group sharing. A wise selection for teachers, librarians, and families with young children.

By far this is Swindler's best work (see also his "Dentition of Living Primates') - the way this book is set-up makes it incredibly easy to use and visually pleasing as well. This oversized volume follows the regional dissection (wonderfully rendered in black and white by Charles Wood) of Papio anubis and Pan troglodytes on one side and Homo sapiens and the accompanying text on the other. When performing multiple primate dissections or comparing structures this is a definite bonus. This is the only volume that I know of that approaches primate anatomy in this way - W.K. Gregory's "Anatomy of the Gorilla" comes close (esp. with the oversized fold-outs of the upper & lower limb done life size) - but doesn't provide the comparitive detail that Swindler & Wood do.

I have used this text many times both in the lab and in the classroom and heartily endorse it for anyone working in anatomy, animal sciences, primatology, and physical anthropology. This book is worth its weight in gold and you will find yourself constantly referring to it.

Also useful in this text are the charts at the end of the book covering the musculature and innervation in each genus - priceless in itself. In fact I do not know of another comparitive source for that information - I would often use these charts as handouts in classes. This is a volume that you'll never regret having - you will find yourself using it more often than you thought.

27 years after it was first published an "Atlas of Primate Gross Anatomy" remains the definitive text on catarrhine anatomy. The primary focus of the atlas is the regional anatomy of the baboon with comparative references to Pan and Man (Homo sapiens sapiens). All regions are covered with special emphasis placed on the limbs. The text is clearly written and well referenced by Dr. Swindler and beautifully illustrated in both carbon dust and pen and ink techniques by Charles Wood. This is a mandatory reference book for primate anatomists and veterinarians and is highly recommended for many specialty courses in primatology and human evolutionary anatomy.

It was a great day when I added Bacon's Last Captain to my library shelves as a keeper.

This novel is not only about WWII, but also delves deeply into the not-talked-about issues that fed into the world's anger that fueled this war. Everyone should read this, especially the gripping account of a kamikaze hit the ship took. It is sobering and intense. I have read many of the greats of literature and R. H. Langley Wood ranks with them.

I have bought the Elephants issue and the Bats issue and these books, which come in magazine form, are very educational for kids. My 4 year old loves them, and makes me read him every word in the magazine!! Highly recommended!!

These "books" come in magazine form. They are highly educational, and satisfy my 4 1\2 year old's curiosity, while giving him facts in a very interesting way. We have the Elephants issue, and I have learned things I didn't know!!

A beautifully written novel, exploring the most basic human passions and spiritual yearnings. A great read for those that appreciate good character development, intense physical conflict, and meaningful dialog. The sequel, The Wind from the Mountains, is the equal of if not the superior to Beyond Sing the Woods and is also highly recommended.

All of Maurice Pledger's books are beautiful, and his Billy Bunny books are no exception to the rule. I'm a mom of 5 who homeschools using a literature based curriculum. Our home is overflowing with books. Pledger's stand out with the best for their beautiful artistry and their ability to educate as they entertain.

My seven year old, artistically creative daughter enjoys them as much as my book-chewing, 1 year old baby girl. My 3 year old son is an action hero in training---always on the go fighting pretend fires or climbing trees---and even he will sit still for Maurice Pledger's wonderous books!

Maurice Pledger's illustrations are beautiful. Board pages are good- children cannot rip or tear out. I also recommend 'An Adventure with Polly Polar Bear' and 'Bobby Bear's ABC's'.
